Becoming a mom was one of the most significant things that ever happened in my life. Some of the ideas I had about being a parent were confirmed, but more things threw me for a loop than I could have ever imagined. I spent years working with new parents and difficult children; I understood swaddling and soothing and milestones and baby basics. But there was little preparation or understanding of how the exhaustion would set in, how breastfeeding and pumping would rule my days, how my body wouldn’t just bounce back (or ever truly go back, really), or how my relationships would shift.
When I was pregnant with my second baby, I discovered Modern Milk in North Scottsdale. This incredible place was offering help to new moms, from support groups to barre classes to lactation consultations to birthing classes. Stephanie (a 2018 top 40 under 40 winner!) saw a gaping hole in the mom community and actively worked to fill the space so that moms were more supported on their parenting journey. To help fill this gap, I wanted to be able to provide to moms with some of the skills to document their own babies, so I offered a free class on photographing your baby’s first year. I now offer this as a speaker in their Happy Mom School.
I photographed this incredible woman with the hopes that I could give her something as special as she has given to the hundreds of women impacted by her. She is a beautiful soul from the inside out.
