In-home Lifestyle Family Session- from the client’s perspective

You’re so accustomed to hearing my side of the story, but I wanted to take this blog post to give you the client’s side… to hear what their experience is like being photographed by me.

Heidi originally reached out for a session in 2019. In the family questionnaire I send this mama made me laugh out loud, because when I asked what she wanted me to know before the shoot, she wrote that her husband hates photo shoots and that they all smile like Chandler in his engagement shoot. Reality is that the shoot was amazing- check it out HERE.

Now more importantly, let’s hear from Heidi!

“I originally found Jocelyn by some stroke of luck while scrolling the endless algorithm that is my Instagram feed. I instantly loved the images she was sharing, how they managed to capture the everyday expressions and easy body language that occurs when you are normally NOT in front of a camera.

I am usually drawn to this kind of work as my family - my husband and I especially- always end up with bewildered, tense nervous gazes and fake smiles plastered to our faces in photographs. I hesitated for a long time thinking the people she photographed must be “naturals”- people who love being photographed and have the effortless ease of looking beautiful at any angle. Then the season was ending and I knew her prices were going to go up (as they should - she is worth every penny) so I took a deep breath and hoped she could work her magic with us.”

“After booking her, I realized why she is able to capture these images. She greets you as if you are getting together with an old friend. The kind that you grew up with but haven’t talked to in years. The kind where it doesn’t matter how much time has passed because now that you are together it’s as if no time has passed at all. She is easy going and has a quick smile, her energy fills the space, and the laughter and ease becomes contagious. Soon everyone is at ease and you are hanging out with your family and this new life long friend you just met, who just happens to have a camera pointed at you the whole time.”

“Any posing she hints at feels natural and she has a good eye for capturing the details that make you, you.

“Your kids missing teeth, their freckles, their shyness or mischievousness - the way their little hands hold the tiny shell they just found.

“The look of pride on their faces when they are showing off the things they find special. The way you and your husband tease each other, the look you give each other when you share something only the two of you know.

“She captures all of it so spectacularly. She takes into account the lighting for the space and uses it to make sure it is helping present the story of you and your family. Her editing style is natural and bright. The colors are as they should be and not washed out, she maintains the mood of the moment, and the ones she throws into black and white are striking.”

“After some personal losses, I scheduled for an in-home lifestyle session. It became important to me to be captured just as we are in our house together, with me also in the photos.”

“My kids loved every moment of this at home photo shoot and Jocelyn joyfully tagged along as each of my kids grabbed her by the hand to show off their room - each clamoring for their chance to be with her. She caught the details of them in their own spaces and then captured them as they are together. The outgoing big sister with her shy but curious little brother.”

“The everyday moments we share in the house are now captured in a way I wouldn’t have imagined possible before meeting her. I love the memories she has captured for us and can’t wait to book again so she can capture more.”

“After having to reschedule due to my kids being sick, my three year old decided it was a good idea to try out his barbershop skills and cut a huge chunk of hair off practically down to his scalp. I called again to discuss the current crisis with Jocelyn. We soon realized we could reschedule again, have his hair cut, OR really lean into the day of our life and capture the change while she was here. We decided to lean in and my husband buzzed off my sons hair while she was here.”

“As always Jocelyn did not disappoint. She captured the moment beautifully. How he was nervous with the buzzer, the pile of hair building up that my seven year old kept playing with. The way my son wanted to vacuum up after. It became a fun and special memory.”

“She will even jump in the pool with you and capture the coolest underwater pictures of you and your littles! I mean come on, who else does that! Perfection all around!”

“After our initial meeting down by and in the river it was quite obvious we had found the person who would capture our family photos as our kids grow.” - Heidi H.

Life is a beautiful, chaotic, incredible, messy, love story.
