Moms- You Matter- Get in the Picture
I want you to take a minute- take a deep breath, feel the ground beneath you, and envision pictures of your mother when you were a child. Go ahead, close your eyes, and let your mind wander.
Now that you’re back, I want you to think about what you saw. Where were you in the photos? What did your mom look like? What feelings did it stir up inside of you?
Now, I want you to think about your children sitting down to look through a photo album- envision them looking at the photos at their current age, at the photos 10 years from now, and again looking at the photos 20 years from now and showing them to your grandchildren.
Photographs teach us about the past, bring up feelings from our childhood, and transport us to another time and place.
I was watching The Bachelor this past spring and during the home town dates, there was a moment that really punched me in the gut. One of the women's mother died a few years back and during the family visit, her father brought out an album with pictures of their family and mother. They sat looking through the photos with huge smiles on their faces, and the woman commented, “Mom looks so beautiful”.
Mamas- you are GODDESSES and it is pertinent that you get in the frame.
I can tell you that so often I haven't felt like being in photos- lack of energy, lack of make-up, lack of a shower, lack of sleep. Excuse after ridiculous excuse. But here's the reality- you are gorgeous no matter what and when you get in the photo, you are showing that you were there too- cementing your legacy in your family.
In 10/20/30 years, your children will look back at photos and their hearts will swell seeing your smile and the love you poured into them. Heck, in that many years, you're going to look back and think “Damn, I looked good!”
My assignment to you this week- Get in the frame at least once. Set up a timer, hand over your phone, do a selfie, hire a photographer, do the damn thing.
