Twin Newborns, An Adoption Tale

I spent ten years of my social work career working with foster families. It was honor to be invited to sit with families during the difficult moments and also celebrate the joyous ones. I sat with parents as they shed tears of loss as they said goodbye to children who lived in their home for years, as well as ones of happiness when children were made permanent members of their family.

I was present for many adoptions- from babies to teenagers- and it always brought me to tears.

I understand that adoption simultaneously means that a biological mother is saying goodbye to her baby while another set of adults are becoming parents. There is a difficult balance of emotions that are to be respected- of both loss and gain, of intense love and grief.

When I was asked to photograph this incredible family, I learned about their journey into parenthood and bore witness to their hearts bursting open as they adapted to their new roles are mother and father.

During our time together, they received final word that their paperwork was complete and in fact these twins were their children.

The couple has asked that their children’s full faces not be presented online out of respect for their biological family, so here is a small tidbit of the magic we created together on that wondrous day.

Are you ready to make some magic preserving this special time in your lives? I’d love to chat and make that happen for you!
